Are you unhappy with your job? Well, do we have great news for you. Heck, you could love your job and still want to apply for this position.
Augusta National Golf Club (yes, THE Augusta National Golf Club) is looking for a senior manager and historian. And if you love golf, this seems like an absolute dream gig.
Thanks for our pal Josh Carpenter at Sports Business Journal for sharing this. Although, if you already applied for the job, you’re probably cursing Josh for putting this PSA out there on Golf Twitter.
This role serves as the Augusta National Golf Club historian, curator and archivist. The ideal candidate is responsible for managing, preserving and enhancing the past, present and future physical and intellectual history of this institution, based on traditional and accepted archive standards. Based full-time in Augusta, Ga., the Historian also reinforces Augusta National’s position as a significant contributor to the history of golf, as envisioned by its Founders, Bobby Jones and Clifford Roberts, while maintaining the confidentiality of Club business.
Sounds pretty cool, huh? We’ve seen the Masters venue post other job listings before, including one for a “Landscape Architect & Planner” a couple years ago, but that gig seems like it came with a ton more pressure.
Then again, Augusta takes its place in golf history very seriously. And there are a ton of “essential functions,” “physical demands,” and “qualifications” listed so make sure you go through all that before you actually apply.
It’s unclear if this has anything to do with a former Augusta National employee pleading guilty earlier this year to stealing millions worth of memorabilia from the club, including Arnold Palmer’s green jacket. Regardless, you’d probably be tasked with helping to make sure something like that doesn’t happen again.
Anyway, it’s a cool-sounding full-time gig so you better act fast! And if you don’t get it, but really want to uproot your life and move to Augusta, the club has several other listings currently from manager of volunteer operations to data anaylst to bartender. OK, that last one sounds like the most fun.
So go on and get those job applications in. If your boss loves golf, he/she will understand.
