Boris Becker thinks Sinner was ‘focused’ ahead of the Australian Open final, in which he beat Alexander Zverev in straight sets.

Sinner clinched his third Grand Slam title with the success, having won both the Australian Open and US Open in 2024.

The latest clash with Zverev represented a 50th ATP match for Sinner since taking the number one spot, with the Italian boasting 47 wins and just three losses, which The Tennis Gazette has now analysed.

Daniil Medvedev – Wimbledon – Quarter-final

Sinner has proven himself to be a hard-court specialist, with all three of his Grand Slam titles coming on the surface.

And his grass court shortcomings were evident at Wimbledon last time out, when the top seed was dumped out in the quarter-finals by fifth seed Daniil Medvedev.

It represented a fine revenge win for the Russian after he gave up a two-set lead to Sinner in the Australian Open final, with Medvedev winning another five-set thriller 6-7(7-9), 6-4, 7-6(7-4), 2-6, 6-3.

Andrey Rublev – ATP Masters 1000 Canada – Quarter-final

Sinner suffered another quarter-final exit immediately after Wimbledon at the ATP Masters 1000 Canada, where he was knocked out by Andrey Rublev.

Another Russian win was secured over the Italian, with Rublev edging past Sinner 6-3, 1-6, 6-2 in an intriguing tie.

The former continued the Italian hurt by beating Matteo Arnaldi in the semi-finals, before a final defeat to Australian Alexei Popyrin.

Carlos Alcaraz – Beijing – Final

Sinner bounced back from those losses expertly with two titles, beating Americans Frances Tiafoe and Taylor Fritz at the Cincinnati Masters and the US Open.

But Carlos Alcaraz then ended his new rival’s streak in Beijing, with the Spaniard defeating the Italian 6-7(6-8), 6-4, 7-6(7-3).

Remarkably, all three of Sinner’s defeats since becoming world number one so far have gone to deciding sets.
