Watersound Club in Panama City, Florida, will open The Third, a new 18-hole course by Love Golf Design, on 20 March.
The design team – founders Davis Love III and Mark Love and lead architect Scot Sherman – have designed the new layout to contrast with the club’s existing courses: the Tom Fazio-designed Camp Creek and the Greg Norman-designed Shark’s Tooth. The Third is located just north of Shark’s Tooth, and east of the Watersound Origins community, and connects to the resort’s existing and future communities.

“The opening of new amenities has been a welcomed and regular occurrence at Watersound Club properties over the past several years,” said Patrick Murphy, senior vice president of hospitality at The St. Joe Company, the owner and operator of Watersound Club. “The opening of The Third, however, represents a monumental milestone in the ongoing Watersound Club evolution and an intentional response to growing demand from our membership. More members plus more demand for golf equals the need for more capacity.”
Each hole with have six teeing areas to allow the course to be played from 4,900 yards to over 7,600. “Players should be able to find a set of tees that matches their game,” said Mark Love. “The greens are large and have a good deal of movement in them. We can set up the course to challenge highly skilled players in a major event, but on a daily basis, it provides a nice mix of easy, medium and difficult pins to keep things interesting, yet not too difficult for the average golfer.”
