A junior co-captain, Ohanesian played a major part in the team’s second straight Division 3 Central Mass. title and first-ever state championship. He was crowned the individual champion at the state match, performing better than 80 other golfers with a three-over par 75. He advanced to the New Englands along with 72 of the best golfers and finished with a 74, which was tied for fifth best in the tournament. During the regular season, he finished 13-2 in matches, with an average score of 36. A co-captain, he was chosen as the Mid-Wach co-MVP with teammate Tommy Bergin.
A junior, Carlson was named the MVC Player of the Year for the second straight year and is now also a two-time Sun All-Star. He was crowned the MVC champion for the second straight year with a 1-under par 71 at Mt. Pleasant GC in Lowell. During the regular season, he finished with a record of 9-1-2, which comes after finishing with a 10-2-1 record last year. Among his regular season highlights was a 5-under 31, which included six birdies, in a win over Tewksbury. In 2023, he was named the NEPGA Junior Tour Player of the Year in the boys 14-15 year-old division.
Named the Mid-Wach co-MVP along with teammate Reid Ohansian, Bergin, a senior, was equally important to the team’s success with the team’s second straight Division 3 Central Mass. title and first state championship, shooting an 83. During the regular season, he finished 13-2 with a scoring average of 36. He was the medalist at the league championship (69) and the Central Mass. championship (74). Bergin is also a member of the school’s boys basketball and outdoor track teams. He was the District E Central Mass. champion in the javelin last spring, throwing 152 feet.
Flynn was the No. 1 golfer for the Crusaders, finishing with a 10-2-1 record, while helping the team finish as co-league champions. The junior had an average score of 36.75 in stroke play. Among his highlights was a 1-under par 35 in the team’s win over Marlboro. Last year, he was named a league all-star and was given the team’s coach’s award. Flynn competes in NEPGJA Tour events during the summer. He is also a captain on the ice hockey team and a member of the baseball team.
A senior captain who resides in Pepperell, Auger was the team’s No. 1 golfer for the second straight year. He was medalist in seven of the 12 matches and scored 358 points in the Modified Stableford format. He shot a 1-under par and even-par twice. His other highlights included winning the CAC championship, taking fourth at the Mass. State Voc Meet and 12th at the Division 3 Central Mass. Meet. Named the team’s MVP for the second straight year, Auger also plays hockey and is in the electrical shop at school.
Just a sophomore, Casey finished 6-6-1 against Merrimack Valley Conference opponents and posted an overall record of 10-6-1, earning all-conference honors. He finished in a tie for 10th place at the league championship meet. In a regular season loss to Tewksbury, he finished with an even-par 36. His strong play led Lowell to a 9-9 overall record, and a trip to the Division 1 North Sectionals. Casey also plays baseball. He’s a Lowell Parks and Recreation Summer Camp counselor.
Named to The Sun’s team for the second straight year, Amari closed out his career with another impressive season. The senior captain had a stroke average of 37.6, a match play record of 10-1-1, averaged 6.21 points per match, was medalist in 11 of 18 matches, and was named the Mid-Wach B MVP for the second straight year. He captured the Mid-Wach B championship and the Division 1 Western Mass. title. He tied for 28th at the Division 1 state meet. Amari is a member of the lacrosse team and ranks No. 5 in his class with a weighted 4.67 GPA.
Named to The Sun’s team for the second straight year, the junior was a major factor in the team’s 20th straight CAC regular season and league championship titles. He finished the season with a 14-1 record, was fifth at the CAC Championship and fourth at the Mass. Voc Meet, leading the team to a fourth-place finish in the Large School division. A two-year league all-star who was named the CAC MVP, Carpenter finished with an average score of 36, an improvement of two strokes from last year. He also plays baseball.
A junior, Li had a season scoring average of 35 for the Ghosts. He had a sensational 5-under par 30 performance in a match against Wayland. During the season, he was a three-time Challenge Cup champion. He consistently finished in the top five. At the Division 1 Central Mass. tournament, he finished tied for 31st with an 82. Li was the NEPGA Player of the Year in 2018 at age 10 before moving on to the Connecticut PGA Foundation at age 15. He is an honor roll student and part of the National French Honors Society.
Making her second appearance on The Sun team, Smith, a junior, had a scoring average of 36.1, while competing at the D1 Central Mass. event. She placed in the top 10 at the New England Girls championships. This past summer she was a U.S. Women’s Amateur participant, finishing fourth at the U.S. Challenge Cup World Series and at the New England Junior Invitational. Last year, she won the Mass Golf Girls Jr. Amateur. An honor roll student and a member of the basketball team, Smith has verbally committed to golf at the University of Memphis starting in the fall of 2026.
In his ninth year of head coach, Gubellini guided the Panthers to the Division 3 state title, the first in program history. The team also captured the Central Mass. title for the second straight year, while qualifying for the postseason four straight years. Ayer-Shirley finished with a record of 11-3 for a three-year total of 38-5. The coach said that all the credit of this year’s success goes to the players for their skill, hard work and determination. Gubellini was a baseball player at Wellesley High. He graduated from Boston College and from Suffolk University School of Law. He has been a history teacher at Ayer-Shirley since 2001.
