Normally, pro athletes don’t figure out what they want to do with their lives after their playing days are over until late in their athletic careers. They’re normally focused on the task at hand, not to mention establishing themselves as viable players and winning as many games as possible.
But one of the youngest key members of the Los Angeles Lakers already knows what he wants to do once he’s done with the NBA.
Starting guard Austin Reaves said on “The Backyard Podcast” that he would like to play pro golf after he retires from basketball.
“Definitely playing a lot of golf. I wanna actually – I want to – I’ve thought about that. I just want to take two years and see if I could play professional somewhere. I don’t care if it’s like – I don’t care if it’s like Korn Ferry. There’s like an Asian Tour. I want to take two years and see – like challenge myself – to see if I can get that good. I’m obviously good now, but you have to be a different level of consistently good. And I want to see if I can get there.”
Reaves is already known as someone who loves to play golf during his free time. In fact, this past summer, he took part in the American Century Championship Golf Tournament, an annual celebrity golf competition. He didn’t do too badly there, as he finished 13th overall.
Mardy Fish, a former pro tennis player, won last year’s American Century Championship. The year before, it was Golden State Warriors superstar Stephen Curry who emerged victorious at the tournament.
