Amazon has opened its new Knoxville warehouse at the site of the former East Towne Mall, the company’s first major fulfillment center in the city.
With initial operations underway, the facility is poised to create hundreds of new seasonal and long-term jobs.
Amazon’s Knoxville warehouse is its second facility in East Tennessee, following the launch of a high-tech fulfillment center in Alcoa, which began operations in October.
“We’ve started initial operations at DNA6, our delivery station in Knoxville. We’re grateful for the support of our local partners and the team is ready to ramp up at this facility and deliver for customers in the area,” Amazon Public Relations Manager Divina Mims told Knox News.
Mims told Knox News that delivery station team job openings for the new Knoxville facility will be posted on a rolling basis on the Amazon website. The starting wage is least $17 per hour. Additionally, employees will have access to a range of benefits, according to a press release.
Applicants can search for openings and sign up to receive job alerts at Amazon.com/jobs
Staffers at the facility will prepare orders for delivery, working in a fast-paced environment to receive truckloads of orders and prepare them for dispatch. They will load conveyor belts, organize deliveries and stage packages for drivers to pick up for final delivery to customers.
Amazon’s new 219,000-square-foot facility is set to boost last-mile delivery efficiency for customers in the Tennessee Valley, according to the Knoxville Chamber of Commerce.
The Knoxville delivery station will support the company’s growing fleet of electric vehicles. Since 2022, Amazon has expanded its fleet to over 15,000 electric vehicles as part of its commitment to sustainability.
