There are nine Masters 1000 tournaments held in a season, with the series of elite-level events introduced in 1990.

Andy Murray played in 21 ATP Masters 1000 championship matches, claiming 14 titles, during his 19-year career from 2005 to 2024.

Andre Agassi contested 22 Masters 1000 title matches in his 20-year career from 1986 to 2006 and triumphed on 17 of those occasions.
The American lost to Stefan Edberg in his maiden Masters final in Indian Wells in 1990, before he defeated the same opponent to win his first Masters title at the 1990 Miami Open.
Agassi was beaten by Rafael Nadal at the 2005 Canadian Open in Montreal in the last Masters 1000 final he ever reached.
Roger Federer featured in 50 ATP Masters 1000 finals, winning 28, during a professional career spanning from 1998 to 2022.
The Swiss reached his first Masters 1000 title match at the 2002 Miami Open and was beaten by Andre Agassi, while he overcame Marat Safin in the 2002 Hamburg Open final to claim his first Masters crown.
Federer saw off John Isner in his last-ever Masters 1000 championship match at the 2019 Miami Open.
Rafael Nadal has played in 53 Masters 1000 finals during his 23-year professional career so far and has claimed 36 titles.
The Spaniard was defeated by Roger Federer in his first-ever Masters final at the 2005 Miami Open, before downing Guillermo Coria in the 2005 Monte Carlo Masters championship match for his maiden title.
Nadal last contested a Masters 1000 title match at the 2022 Indian Wells Open, where he was beaten by Taylor Fritz.
Djokovic has reached a record 58 ATP Masters 1000 finals in his 21-year career to date and triumphed in 40 of these championship matches.
The Serbian first reached a Masters 1000 title match in Indian Wells in 2007 and was beaten by Rafael Nadal, while he won his first Masters title at the 2007 Miami Open, defeating Guillermo Canas in the final.
Djokovic competed in his most recent Masters 1000 final at the 2023 Paris Masters and overcame Grigor Dimitrov.
