The DePaul game marks the first of several notable trips for UT during non-conference play. Texas will travel next month to No. 5 Notre Dame for what could end up being the marquee matchup of the SEC-ACC Challenge. In the upcoming weeks, the Longhorns will also be hosted by James Madison and Richmond teams that both nwon 20 games last season.
Last season, Texas went 9-2 in true road games.
Sophomore forward Madison Booker missed Wednesday’s 95-58 win over Lamar with a hamstring injury. Texas coach Vic Schaefer was unable to give a timeline for Booker’s return during his postgame press conference, and a team spokesperson confirmed on Friday that she was still carrying that “day-to-day” designation.
Booker earned All-American accolades as a freshman, and she was named the Southeastern Conference’s preseason player of the year ahead of this season. Booker had 18 points and 11 rebounds while playing 25 minutes in the Longhorns’ season opener on Nov. 10.
DePaul was picked to finish ninth in the 11-team Big East in that conference’s preseason poll. The Big East’s preseason team also didn’t feature any Blue Demons, but forward Jorie Allen did receive an honorable mention. Allen, who started her career at Indiana but has spent the past four seasons at DePaul, averaged 18.7 pnoints and 8.0 rebounds over her first three games this season.
So far this season, DePaul has beaten Mercyhurst and Loyola Chicago by a combined 36 points. The Blue Demons have also been beaten at home by Princeton.
Texas. Two years ago, Texas beat DePaul 105-62 in an exhibition game at Moody Center. All-American Aneesah Morrow, whose 20 points and 16 rebounds led DePaul in that exhibition, is now playing at LSU while Aaliyah Moore and Rori Harmon, who respectively contributed 20 points and 10 assists to that 43-point rout, are still Longhorns. Expect a similar result on Sunday.
