LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – Texas Tech Athletics is celebrating National Girls and Women in Sports Day.
It hosted what has become a traditional clinic at the Womble Basketball Center on Saturday.
The clinic was open to all kids ages four to 12.
The kids got to meet with Texas Tech’s student athletes and try their hand at several different sports.
Senior Associate Athletics Director Dee-Dee Brown Campbell said sports have been proven to help kiddos grow and helps them learn life lessons, regardless of whether they stick with athletics.
“It’s unlimited. They can become stronger physically, mentally, socially; learn how to deal with competition, learn how not to quit, how to keep pushing. More importantly a lot of those transferrable skills take you beyond sports so we just want to help women and young kids period so they can be better at whatever their sport is in life.”
Kids who participated in the clinic also received a free ticket to go cheer on the Lady Raiders as they faced Oklahoma State at the USA.
National Girls and Women’s Day is in two weeks, on Feb. 5.
