Detroit Lions cornerback Terrion Arnold was injured during the third quarter of a Sunday Night Football game against the Minnesota Vikings, a game that had serious playoff implications.
Arnold was injured when he made a tackle on Vikings running back Aaron Jones.
The former Alabama cornerback made a shoe-string tackle and Jones rolled over the top of him. Then Arnold reached for his lower left leg following the roll, and he did not get up from the field before trainers came out to check on him.
Arnold was helped off the field by two trainers, then was reportedly carted off to the locker room.
The good news is his injury appears to be less severe than it might have initially looked. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Terrion Arnold is questionable to return with a foot injury.
Terrion Arnold was a first-round NFL Draft pick by Detroit, taken with the No. 24 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. He has lived up to the billing so far in his rookie season.
Arnold had started 14 of the 15 games he had appeared in prior to the Sunday Night Football contest against the Vikings. He had logged 58 tackles and nine passes defended on the season.
During his career at Alabama, Arnold was a remarkably productive player.
The former Tallahassee, Fla., product logged 45 tackles during the 2022 season, also adding an interception, a fumble recovery and nine passes defended.
He’d have a breakout season as a redshirt sophomore during the 2023 season. During that campaign, Arnold tallied 63 tackles, 6.5 tackles for a loss, a sack, five interceptions, a forced fumble and 17 passes defended.
Suffice it to say, the Detroit Lions will be hoping Terrion Arnold can return from his injury in short order.
