Beatriz stretches before and after her workouts. “Stretching keeps the muscles flexible, strong, and healthy, and we need that flexibility to maintain a range of motion in the joints,” says Harvard Health. “Without it, the muscles shorten and become tight. Then, when you call on the muscles for activity, they are weak and unable to extend all the way. That puts you at risk for joint pain, strains, and muscle damage.”
Beatriz has approached her tennis career one step at a time. “At each stage, I consolidated myself, and I started to feel confident about moving up to the next stage,” Haddad Maia tells GQ Brazil. “I never wanted to skip over barriers.”
To get her body ready for the tennis court, Beatriz spends a lot of time doing strength training workouts. A few of her go-to exercises? Weight lifting, squats, and lunges.
