CLEVELAND, Ohio — The round of 16 kicked off Wednesday at the Tennis in the Land tournament at Jacobs Pavilion.
Tennis in the Land is a WTA 250 tournament that brings top professional women’s players to Cleveland from around the world. Former players include 2017 US Open champion Sloane Stephens, 2020 Australian Open champion Sofia Kenin and WTA Finals champion Caroline Garcia.
The final match of the day session saw Brazil’s Beatriz Haddad Maia, the No. 1 seed, take on Spain’s Cristina Bucsa on the stadium court. Haddad Maia cruised to an easy 6-2, 6-1 victory and move on.

In quarter finals doubles action, China’s Yifan Xu and Spain’s Cristina Bucsa defeated Brazil’s Ingrid Martins and United States’ Quinn Gleason 6-3, 6-4.
