The women’s tennis singles quarterfinal match Wednesday between Iga Swiatek and Danielle Collins took an unexpected turn when a female spectator showed off her bikini top after lifting her shirt in the crowd.
During the Olympic match at Roland Garros, cameras panned to fans in the crowd, including a man, a child and a woman.
All seemed status quo as the trio waved to the camera.
Moments later, the woman held up her shirt to unveil a white bikini top underneath.
Unsurprisingly, many on social media had much to say about the incident, which one X user dubbed a “wtf moment.”
“Having a nice family outing at the Olympics and then Mum had to show her boobs again,” an X user wrote, according to The Sun.
Another user wrote, “Bizarre behaviour [sic] with a young child.”
The wild fan moment added to what was a fiery day on the court.
Swiatek, who won 6-1, 2-6, 4-1 after Collins withdrew due to dehydration and cramping issues, was accused of being disingenuous in the aftermath by her American opponent.
“I told Iga she didn’t have to be insincere about, you know, my injury,” Collins said, according to tennis reporter Christopher Clarey. “There’s a lot that happens on camera, and there are a lot of people with a ton of charisma and come out and are one way on camera and another way in the locker room. And I just haven’t had the best experience, and I don’t really feel like anybody needs to be insincere. They can be the way that they are. I can accept that, and I don’t need the fakeness.”
With the win, Swiatek, the world’s top-ranked female player, advanced to the semifinals Thursday against China’s Zheng Qinwen.
The Polish star lost in two sets, 6-2, 7-5.
Swiatek “skipped any questions” from reporters afterward, according to the Associated Press, which described her face as “flushed and eyes red.”
“Sorry. Next time,” Swiatek told reporters.
