Swiss wildcard Stan Wawrinka reached the quarter-finals of the Stockholm Open by edging out Spaniard Alejandro Davidovich Fokina 6-4, 3-6, 7-5 at the Kungliga Tennishallen on Thursday evening.
Wawrinka, ranked No 217, will face the winner of the match between Russian Andrey Rublev, the top seed, and Frenchman Alexandre Muller next.
In the previous round of the Stockholm tournament, the 39-year-old Swiss won against American Brandon Nakashima, the No 6 seed (6-4, 6-4).
Davidovich Fokina, ranked No 64, beat Argentinian qualifier Thiago Agustin Tirante (7-6 (2), 6-2) in the previous round of the Stockholm tournament.
