American qualifier Brandon Nakashima beat Canadian wildcard Denis Shapovalov 6-4, 7-5 to move into the second round of the Montreal Masters at Stade IGA on Wednesday evening.
Nakashima, ranked No 52, will face American Tommy Paul, the No 10 seed, next.
