French wildcard Richard Gasquet moved into the second round of the Metz Open by edging out Brazilian Thiago Monteiro 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 (6) at the Arènes de Metz on Monday.
Gasquet, ranked No 133, will play American Alex Michelsen, the No 8 seed, next.
