Tennessee Football on Wednesday issued its first injury report of Florida week, with wide receivers Squirrel White and Bru McCoy as probable and wide receiver Dont’e Thornton listed as questionable.
Defensive lineman Bryson Eason was not on the injury report despite leaving the Arkansas game with what appeared to be a left leg injury.
Josh Heupel said during his weekly press conference on Monday, when asked about White and McCoy, that “none of the injuries are longterm, season-ending injuries.”
“As we go through the week,” Heupel said, “we’ll find out exactly where everybody is at.”
Tennessee’s injury report will be updated again on Thursday and Friday night. The final update will be around 5:30 p.m. Eastern Time Saturday. The eighth-ranked Vols (4-1, 1-1 SEC) host Florida (3-2, 1-1) Saturday in a 7 p.m. ET start (TV: ESPN) at Neyland Stadium.
Thornton’s only catch at Arkansas was for 42 yards on the final drive of the game. For the season he has eight catches for 284 yards and three touchdowns.
McCoy was injured in the first half of Tennessee’s 19-14 loss at Arkansas and appeared to have his right hand in a heavy wrap on the Tennessee sideline in the second half. White was in a sling after leaving the game with an injury in the second half.
McCoy caught two passes for nine yards. He got hit near the Arkansas sideline late in the first half, checking himself out of the game after coming up slow after the play.
White caught a team-high seven passes for 38 yards before leaving with his injury. He entered the game with eight catches for 121 yards entering Saturday night’s game.
The SEC in August announced “availability reports” for football, basketball and baseball.
“This availability reporting policy is intended to reduce pressure from outside entities seeking participation information,” said SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey, “and represents a commitment of our 16 institutions to provide enhanced transparency to support efforts to protect our student-athletes and the integrity of competition.”
Players will be listed as available, probable, questionable, doubtful or out for their next game. On game day the updates will include available, game-time decision or out.
Schools of who fail to provide accurate and timely availability reports will be subject to penalties from $25,000, for first-time offenders, to $100,000 for “third and further” offenses in football. Men’s basketball, women’s basketball and baseball fines will be between $15,000 and $25,000.
