Tennessee freshman guard Bishop Boswell is out for the Vols’ matchup against MTSU on Monday night with a shoulder injury.
Boswell suffered a right shoulder injury playing ball screen defense in the second half of Tennessee’s 84-36 win over Western Carolina last week. The 6-foot-3 combo guard was wearing a sling after the game.
The freshman point guard is averaging 0.6 points, 0.8 rebounds and 0.7 assists per game in 3.9 minutes per game this season. Boswell is right on the edge of Tennessee’s rotation against top competition but has played more minutes in buy games.
Boswell is a defensive first guard who is a great fit in Rick Barnes’ program. He played six minutes in the second half of Tennessee’s win over Illinois while starting guards Zakai Zeigler and Chaz Lanier battled foul trouble. Boswell gave the Vols good minutes in the win, grabbing three rebounds and playing strong defense.
It’s been a notable day for Tennessee basketball roster news. Sophomore wing Cam Carr is leaving the Volunteer program after a year and a half with intentions to transfer. Combine Carr’s departure with Boswell’s injury and JP Estrella’s season-ending foot injury and the Vols are down to just eight scholarship players against the Blue Raiders.
Tennessee is 11-0 and the No. 1 team in the AP Poll for the third straight week after knocking off Western Carolina in its lone game last week. The Vols have six wins over power five teams this season and two wins over top 25 teams at this point in the season.
The Vols are 26.5-point favorites over MTSU and the over/under is set at 144.5 according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
Tipoff between Tennessee and MTSU is at 7 p.m. ET on Monday night. Roy Philpott and Dane Bradshaw are on the call for the SEC Network.
