Netflix executives promised to put their own twist on the streamer’s Christmas Day NFL slate, and this week Bussin’ With The Boys host Taylor Lewan revealed he is on the “shortlist” of talent that could be part of the broadcasts this winter.

Netflix will broadcast two games on Christmas as the Chiefs travel to Pittsburgh and the Ravens travel to Houston.

Lewan said on his podcast that he is in contention to be a sideline reporter after earlier reports indicated Netflix was pursuing big names like Greg Olsen and Nate Burleson as game analysts. The streamer is reportedly combing through new targets after Fox denied their pursuit of its top booth.

“I’m on the shortlist … not color commentary, but probably sideline,” Lewan said. “If Tom (Brady) got $300 mil, throw me like 2.”

Lewan made his First Take debut this summer, while he and cohost Will Compton appeared on the ManningCast in Week 1 of the NFL season.

With retirement now in his rearview, Lewan is easing into a larger career in the media. A gig on Netflix’s first NFL broadcast would certainly be a big break for the longtime offensive lineman.

As for Netflix, adding Lewan would present a unique twist on a familiar strategy. While other streamers use popular content creators and online personalities for alt-casts and side content, Lewan would be directly part of the broadcast. A sideline reporting role may be unorthodox for a former NFL athlete, but surely the streamer would work with Lewan to bring out more of the personality and fun than the more traditional role someone like Erin Andrews occupies.

Aside from Rich Eisen hosting studio coverage, the final product for Netflix’s first foray into airing an NFL game is still coming together. But the latest Lewan news suggests they are coming out firing.
