Taylor Fritz speaks about Arthur Rinderknech again after knocking him out of the Dallas Open as he gives his view on the crowd

Taylor Fritz has made his first appearance since a disappointing Australian Open, making it past familiar foe Arthur Rinderknech at the Dallas Open.

Rinderknech took a ‘jab’ at Fritz before their Wimbledon second round meeting in 2024, which the American won.

Fritz wished Rinderknech a ‘nice flight home’ after that match, with their bitter rivalry having started when the former shushed the French Open crowd after beating the latter there in 2023.

Frenchman Rinderknech has now lost a third successive match against Fritz, with the American winning their Dallas Open round of 32 tie 6-4, 6-2.

It comes after he suffered a hugely disappointing third round exit at the Australian Open to veteran Gael Monfils.

Along with their Wimbledon encounter, Fritz has now met Rinderknech on the court in France and America.

Asked by Tennis Channel if he thinks the American crowd was more polite to Rinderknech than the French crowd was to him, Fritz replied: “I think it was a little more hostile towards me in Paris but you know, whatever, it is what it is.

“That whole [have a nice flight] thing was only because I thought there was nothing wrong with I guess how we ended the first time around on the first match, then I saw he said some stuff before the Wimbledon match so I responded, and I’ll leave it at that.”

It seems that Fritz has now moved on from his drama with Rinderknech, which is certainly a wise move if he wants to get back to his very best.

The American enjoyed a superb run to the US Open final and ATP Finals last two last season, losing both to Jannik Sinner.

But a return to reality arrived in Melbourne, with Monfils shocking the fourth seed after he had eased through the first two rounds.

Fritz is now the top seed at the Dallas Open, with the American taking on Canadian Denis Shapovalov in the round of 16.

The pair are part of a star-studded field at the ATP 500 tournament, where the likes of Casper Ruud, Tommy Paul, Ben Shelton and Frances Tiafoe are all involved.

Paul is the defending champion at the indoor hard court event, and recently joined Fritz in the ATP top 10 as American men’s tennis continues to go from strength to strength.
