Taylor Fritz comments on his tennis future and how much longer he will play tennis.
The American is now 27 years of age and he has been a professional player since 2015.
His growth from when he first appeared on tour to having the best season of his career in 2024 has been very impressive.
Taylor Fritz is in his prime and is showing no signs of slowing down, and it remains to be seen how much longer he will compete.
When he may hang up his racket is the last thing on Fritz’s mind at the moment.
The American number one is in the form of his life and started 2025 ranked as World number four, the highest ranking of his career so far.
Some of his compatriots played deep into their thirties such as Andre Agassi, while the likes of Venus Williams played into her forties.
It is far more common now for players to end their careers much later than was previously common, and Fritz would love to have a very long tennis career.
“That’d be huge,” he told Sports Illustrated. “I don’t know how likely that is, but, yeah, I’ll do this as long as I can, long as I feel like I’m good.”
Fritz has developed into one of the best tennis players on the ATP Tour. His consistent play and excellent work ethic has produced some impressive results which he looks to build on in 2025.
Another reason for his growth in the sport is his improved mental strength, and ability to find ways to win tough matches on a more consistent basis.
“I think it’s a pretty big difference. I think style-wise, it hasn’t changed too much,” Fritz shared. “But I just think I’m doing everything a little bit better, with a little bit more confidence. I think mentally, I’m much, much stronger.
“When I was younger, my career, like, five years ago, it was a lot more work, and more things I had to do, to play well.
“I don’t know if that’s the best way to describe it, but I feel like I’m working harder and maybe not having as much fun, so that I can do what’s the most enjoyable thing and the most fun thing for me—which is winning and playing those big matches.”
