Davis finds Bell in the corner for the triple. Back-to-back now for him.
Kyle Cuffe drives into the lane and finishes over the Cardinal defender with the floater.
Petar Majstorovic battles on the boards and makes the put-back layup off the offensive rebound.
11:52 remaining: Louisville 13, Syracuse 10
Davis knocks down the first SU triple of the game. First make in the last seven attempts for the Orange.
Chris Bell follows Davis’ example and hits a three from the top of the key.
15:20 remaining: Louisville 7, Syracuse 4
Lucas Taylor, who’s been hot offensively as of late, starts the game with a highlight defensive play. He swatted away a layup off the backboard for a block.
Jyare Davis corrals the Elijah Moore miss and goes back up for the layup.
Eddie Lampkin probes underneath the basket before hitting a short jump hook at the rim.
Syracuse (8-8, 2-3 ACC) looks to make it three straight conference wins as they return to the JMA Wireless Dome to host Louisville (12-5, 5-1 ACC).
In the series between the Orange and the Cardinals, Louisville has the edge with a 19-14 record. But SU has done fairly well in terms of games in the Dome with a record of 8-4 and overall has won the last four games the teams have faced off in.
Syracuse won its last time out in a matchup on the road against Boston College, winning 79-71. The game not only represented the squad’s second ACC win of the season, but also its first road win as well. JJ Starling shined for his team in the last outing, scoring a team-high 26 points. Eddie Lampkin also chipped in a double-double.
That level of production is important because Syracuse is still missing star freshman Donnie Freeman due to an injured right foot. He’s set to miss his third consecutive game tonight against the Cardinals.
Louisville is coming into the game on a six-game winning streak going back to the last calendar year and has been one of the more surprising teams in the ACC. They are 5-1 in conference play. The one loss was the Cardinals first conference matchup against the ACC-leading Duke Blue Devils. Since then, they have not lost an intraconference game and are tied with Clemson for second in the ACC.
The Cardinals are led in scoring by Chucky Hepburn at 15.1 points per game. But four other players also average 10 or more points on the squad, making it a well-oiled machine offensively.
One Thing To Keep An Eye On: How Does Syracuse Respond To A Top Team In The Conference
While Louisville isn’t ranked (they did receive 17 votes in the latest AP poll), they might as well be to Syracuse. This is a top three team in the league and it is arguably one of the biggest tests they’ve faced this season and certainly at home.
A win by the Orange would push them into the upper half of the ACC by win total. But more importantly, it would give them a quality win and a major confidence boost. If making the NCAA tournament is the goal for this squad, they will have to continue to rack up wins and potentially make a deep run in the ACC tournament. What better a time to start than now, against a team that as of right now might make the tournament themselves.
