TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Small businesses are known as the lifeblood of the economy. After Helene and Milton, some are on financial life support. That’s why “Small Business Saturday” carries more meaning in the bay area this year.
Heads and Tails in Tampa off Kennedy Boulevard has been a go-to for Tampa Bay sports fans since 1992, offering gear for every local Tampa Bay team.
Owner Stephen Sherman said community support is more important than ever after back-to-back hurricanes dealt a major financial blow.
“During the hurricanes, we probably lost about $80,000 in revenue just because the store was closed,” Sherman said. “Families had suffered a lot of damage in the surrounding neighborhoods. So, it was it was tough, not just for us, but for all of our friends and family surrounding the store.”
Sherman said small business Saturday is helping turn things around.
“This year it’s even more important because of the two storms that we had back-to-back this fall,” she said. “It impacted all the small businesses here locally. So, shopping small for us is super important.”
To help increase foot traffic, the store is rolling out discounts all weekend into next month.
“We’ve got deals set up all throughout December,” Sherman said. “So, our biggest thing is giving back to the community.”
Sherman said 75% of their business comes from local shoppers, making Tampa’s support the heart of their success.
The address for the store front location is 4524 W Kennedy Blvd in Tampa.
