The lone Kentucky Derby and Oaks points races this Super Bowl weekend are Saturday at Tampa Bay Downs, but those are not the only stakes races to pay attention to in Oldsmar, Fla.
A quartet of stakes kicks off with the Pelican Stakes, and this sprint features a 15-1 morning-line choice who factors prominently among Super Screener computations.
“The pace is estimated to fall seven points short of par, so this will be a soft pace that favors those who are forwardly placed,” Mike Shutty said. “The horse with the best pace advantage is the Super Screener’s top win pick, no. 3 Silver Slugger.
“He steps up to way tougher competition here after winning his last off a 10-month layoff, but form-cycle analysis is calling for as much as a nine-point forward move second off the layoff, which is when a lot of big moves occur.
“He’ll save ground throughout sitting just a length or two off the sluggish pace. He’ll be able to throttle back off the fractions he pressed last out, allowing for more energy to be reserved here to provide the needed late kick into a slow pace.”
Each race in every Super Screener includes top win, most reliable board hitter, top value and top long-shot designations along with wagering strategy on how to hook those horses together.
