TIGARD, Ore. (KATU) — On Thursday, August 1, The Caring Closet received a donation of $23,350 from the Summerfield Women’s Golf Club. The club raised the money through a golf, auction, raffle, and dinner event.
“This is a charity our women’s golf has been supporting for five, six, maybe even seven years. The Caring Closet is very near and dear to the hearts of all of our golf women. This is the charity we wanted to support,” said Sharon Strain, Co-Chairperson of the Summerfield Women’s Golf Club Charity
The Caring Closet is an organization that supports children in the Tigard area who need clothing, hygiene products, and small household items.
“Funding helps us because we purchase new shoes, new socks, and new underwear for each student and hygiene products,” said Kim Thoren, Caring Closet Coordinator. “It’s going to be such a great start to the school year. I’m so grateful.”
“The big goal was to have fun,” said Sharon Stoesser, Chairman of the Summerfield Women’s Golf Club Charity. “We’re just so grateful for everything everyone did.”
“People forget that clothing is the first step to coming to school besides breakfast and the [fact that] Tigard-Tualatin School District supports this, is just phenomenal,” said Thoren.
The golf club announced the amount at the club’s luncheon on August 1. The charity event took place on July 11.
