Subsanador, who won the Grade 1 California Crown two weeks
ago at his home track Santa Anita, will miss the Breeders’ Cup Classic because of an ankle injury, his Hall of Fame trainer confirmed Saturday.
“Yes, he’s got an ankle problem,” Richard Mandella said in a text message confirming the Daily Racing Form report. “We’re going to have to stop and give him a rest.”

Mandella told DRF’s Steve Andersen the 5-year-old entire will not need surgery
and will be turned out to allow for recovery and a possible return to racing in
the spring.
Owned by Qatar sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani in the name
of Wathnan Racing, Subsanador is an Argentina-bred horse by Fortify who won her
last two starts, including the Philip H. Iselin (G3) at Monmouth Park.
The California Crown victory at 6-1 odds came with an
automatic invitation to the Breeders’ Cup. It also pushed Subsanador’s career

odds to win the $7 million Classic on Nov. 2 at Del Mar. City Of Troy, who is
