There’s nothing like returning to the land Down Under on the eve of the Australian Open in Melbourne, Australia.
For the best possible preparation for the year’s first Major, many of the top players in the world on the ATP Tour and WTA have opted for the 18-team competition in both Perth and Sydney to fine-tune their skills for Grand Slam action.
This year’s United Cup will feature the following teams: USA, Greece, China, Canada, Kazakhstan, Germany, Croatia, Spain, Brazil, Poland Italy, Great Britain, Czechia, France, Australia, Norway, Switzerland and Argentina.
World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka and US Open finalist Jessica Pegula will lead the field this year at the Brisbane International in Australia. Sabalenka would love nothing more than to start her season with a victory as she looks for a three-peat in Melbourne.
Pegula, who is still searching for her first Major crown, remains one of the hardest working players on the circuit.
On the men’s side, defending champion Grigor Dimitrov will return to action and he will be joined by Holger Rune and Frances Tiafoe.
The field will also have a great boost this year as home-country favourite Nick Kyrgios returns to action after be sidelined for two years. Turning 30 in April, Kyrgios will be adamant on ending his career in style after reaching the Wimbledon finals in 2022.
Other action this week will feature Andrey Rublev retuning to Hong Kong, China to defend his title and Naomi Osaka looking to return to the top 10 after a disappointing 2024. The Japanese star begins her year in Auckland, New Zealand.
