MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) – Republican Congressman Bryan Steil requested the Trump Administration take action to block a proposed rule that would eliminate jobs and service opportunities to people with developmental and intellectual disabilities.
Rep. Steil visited KANDU Industries in Milton to talk about the importance of community rehabilitation providers and the employment opportunities at risk.
KANDU has been in Rock County for over 60 years, helping people with developmental disabilities through job training and employment placement.
Steil explains that KANDU and other organizations operate under a waiver through the Fair Labor Standards Act. He said in a letter to President Trump that the Department of Labor was attempting to eliminate a section of the Act, which he argued would threaten the employment and services these community rehabilitation providers give.
KANDU Industries employs more than 250 individuals, making it one of the largest employers in the Janesville area.
