QUINCY (WGEM) – Holiday shopping is still in full swing with the arrival of Cyber Monday. But for those continuing to knock out shopping in person, the Quincy Police Department (QPD) shared a few safety tips.
Situational awareness is important when out and about shopping, according to QPD Sergeant Craig Russell. He said if you are having to keep presents in the car, to do so discreetly.
“If we could put the package in the trunk, put a blanket over it in the backseat, lock the vehicles. Anything that we can do to prevent somebody from seeing something that you have that they possibly want,” Russell said.
He said to keep your purse secure if you are shopping with one. Leaving it loose in the shopping cart can lead to theft.
“If you can think ahead, maybe strap it across your chest. Or if you do have it in a cart, maybe wrap it around your wrist,” Russell said.
Russell also advised you keep an eye on your bank account to make sure everything looks right. If something looks off, he said one option you have is to contact QPD.
