LANSING, Mich. (FOX 2) – An online gambling site was ordered to cease operations in Michigan after the state found that the website was allegedly violating laws.
The Michigan Gaming Control Board (MGCB) sent a cease-and-desist letter to Duranbah Limited N.V., the operator of MyBookie.ag.
The backstory:
According to a press release from the board, the Curaçao-based website allows gamers to play live dealer games such as blackjack and roulette. There’s also an option to bet on sports.
However, the site operates without a Michigan gambling license.
“Our investigation into MyBookie.ag found that their operations were accessible to Michigan citizens, which violates state laws,” MGCB Executive Director Henry Williams said. “We are taking strong action to uphold the principles of fair and legal gaming.”
What’s next:
Duranbah Limited N.V. has 14 days from receiving the cease-and-desist letter to stop operations in Michigan. If the company does not do so, the gaming board said it plans to work with Attorney General Dana Nessel to take legal action against Durhanbah.
Businesses that offer gambling without a license could be charged with a felony. If convicted, the operator could face up to 10 years in prison and/or fines up to $100,000.
What you can do:
