The Peoria Park District’s new “state of the art” golf training center will break ground Tuesday as the $6.5 million facility moves one step closer to a reality.
Akin to a Top Golf facility, the training center will have 21 bays on multiple levels. The park district is also collaborating with Fox Pub and the former owner of Bearded Owl Brewing for food and drinks at the facility. It will also incorporate the same Toptracer technology used at Top Golf facilities.
Completion is expected in spring of 2025. The training facility will be located at the Peoria Park District’s Golf Learning Center on Radnor Road across from Kellogg Golf Course.
The project’s costs came in over budget, but the Peoria Park District is receiving $4 million of state money secured by Rep. Jehan Gordon-Booth, D-Peoria, for the project.
Inflation is responsible for the project coming in over budget, said Peoria Park District Executive Director Emily Cahill. The park district is working on securing another $1 million from the state for the project. The other $1.5 million in costs will be covered by the park district.
In July, the Peoria Park District Board of Trustees approved a $4.46 million bid from Peoria Metro Construction to do the project.
“The Peoria Park District has always evolved to meet the changing needs of our patrons and to enhance the vibrancy of the communities we serve,” Cahill said in a news release. “Keeping up with the times is crucial, and we’re excited to bring this state-of-the-art golf experience to Peoria.”
