GRANGER, Ind. (WSBT) — The location of the fire that destroyed the clubhouse at Juday Creek Golf Course has now been determined.
The golf course has been without a clubhouse for more than a month and a half, but the owners are not letting that stop them from serving golfers.
In the parking lot, there’s a tent with tables and chairs, a temporary pro shop and snack bar, and porta potties for restrooms.
The owner shared they also have used a large tent to continue hosting outings.
But despite all of the hard work to stay in operation, traffic is not as busy.
The owner estimates that losing the clubhouse has cost the course tens of thousands of dollars.
“You know we aren’t as busy as we would’ve been, we just aren’t, but we still have had golfers. It’s nice that people still come out and support us, so we are looking forward to a good year next year and keep moving forward,” said Michelle Wittig, Juday Creek Golf Course owner.
Also moving forward, the investigation into the fire.
Clay Fire Territory Fire Marshal Ron Melser shared where in the clubhouse basement the fire began.
“We have went back out to the scene, we dug out in the basement area where we thought the original area of origin was, and we confirmed just inside the door and the basement area was the area of origin,” said Mesler.
What caused the fire has not yet been determined.
Wittig said they will soon start demolition on the building.
“We did get the go ahead to start demolition, which is a longer process than we thought. I’m thinking, you know, OK, a week after the fire let’s tear it down, but there was a lot of investigation and different formalities that we had to go through,” said Wittig.
Demolition is set to start at the beginning of next week.
There is no timeline for rebuilding, but Wittig’s goal is to have a new building within a year.
The golf course will remain open during the winter, weather permitting.
