With a stallion contract signed for Rich Strike, the 2022 Kentucky Derby winner was moved to Mountain Springs Farm in Pennsylvania.
Former owner Rick Dawson posted on Facebook that he completed a stallion deal for the son of Keen Ice with Mountain Springs and Rich Miller and partners.
“In many ways it was a sad day for me, family & friends when he transitioned to a new owner group,” Dawson wrote in a Jan. 10 post. “But this process is necessary, but it’s not the end of my participation in Richie’s life & career.”
BloodHorse reported that Rich Strike will enter stud this year at $6,500.
Miller told BloodHorse that an open house at Mountain Springs on Jan. 11 drew about 120 people.
Other stallions at Mountain Springs include Enticed and Uptowncharlybrown, the second- and third-leading active Pennsylvania sires, according to the BloodHorse report.
Rich Strike won the Kentucky Derby at 80-1, one of only two wins in 14 career starts. The other came at Churchill Downs as a 2-year-old.
