The Notre Dame football program is seeing a lot of comings and going these days. Since the season ended with the loss to Ohio State in the National Championship game, the program has been plenty busy trying to make sure that certain people don’t leave, while replacing those who do.
One of the biggest behind the scenes losses, according to most people close to the program, is the former Fighting Irish General Manager Chad Bowden. The staffer, who played a major role in recruiting, moved onto USC with a reported raise that saw his salary triple.
Now there are rumblings that Bowden is pillaging the Notre Dame football staff for one of his lieutenants. According to FootballScoop, USC is snapping up Zaire Turner, one of the staffers who along with Bowden, got a raise from the Irish last year due to her recognized hard work and value to the staff.
The Notre Dame Director of Player Personnel is reportedly on the move to the Trojans. Turner has shown her ability to be a valuable part of the program since being elevated to DPP. In fact, Notre Dame dispatched Turner to recruit on the road for the Irish because the program’s coaches had practice and preparation for the CFP title bout.
As of now, there hasn’t been any official confirmation that Turner is on the move but it would certainly make sense. The DPP and Bowden worked extremely closely with one another. It stands to reason he would want one of his top lieutenants to join him in sunny California so that he can keep having the kind of success that allowed him to get the massive $1 million contract he’s said to have gotten from the Big Ten program.
There may also be writing on the wall if the hiring of James Blanchard to replace Bowden becomes official. He might want to bring in his own staff. Even if he eventually agreed to keep Turner on staff, she might want to leave for the sure offer rather than hoping to be kept around by the new guy who comes to the Notre Dame football program.
