Stacy Slobodnik-Stoll to be Inducted into the Michigan Women’s Golf Association Hall of Fame

EAST LANSING, Mich. (MSU ATHLETICS) – Michigan State head women’s golf coach Stacy Slobodnik-Stoll will be one of six women’s golf standouts who will be inducted to the Michigan Women’s Golf Association (MWGA) Hall of Fame during a ceremony on Sunday, Aug. 18 at the Hellenic Cultural Center in Westland, Mich.

The MWGA Hall of Fame started with an inaugural class in 2016 and has had ceremonies in 2017, 2019 and 2022. The Class of 2024 will bring the total number of inductees to 29 members.

Slobodnik-Stoll will be joined in the Hall of Fame class by Jane Kersjes, Sue Madej, Jean Murray, Karen Peek and Terri Anthony Ryan.

This will be the third Hall of Fame honor for Slobodnik-Stoll, who in 2017 was inducted into both the Women’s Golf Coaches Association Hall of Fame and the Michigan Golf Hall of Fame in 2017. She was the fifth Spartan in the state’s Hall of Fame, joining Mary Fossum (2002), Joyce Kazmierski (2003), Joan Garety (2005) and Sue Ertl (2010) in the Michigan Golf Hall of Fame.

In her 27 seasons as head coach, Slobodnik-Stoll has led the Spartans to 24 NCAA Regional appearances, 14 trips to the NCAA Championships and eight Big Ten titles. Additionally, Michigan State has won 44 tournaments during her tenure, including the 2023 NCAA Palm Beach Regional, the program’s first-ever NCAA Regional win.

Slobodnik-Stoll is a five-time Big Ten Coach of the Year (2001, 2007, 2012, 2017, 2018) and was named the Midwest Region Coach of the Year in 1999.

Over the last 27 years, her players have earned All-Big Ten honors 59 times, including 37 first-team selections. Five players have been named Big Ten Golfer of the Year and a Spartan has claimed Big Ten Freshman of the Year honors four times.

Nine Spartans have garnered All-American accolades under Slobodnik-Stoll, including rising senior Katie Lu, who was an honorable mention selection this year.

In the classroom, Slobodnik-Stoll’s teams have been just as successful as on the golf course. For eight consecutive years from 2012-19 the Spartans boasted the highest GPA among all MSU athletic programs. In 2024, the program won the Athletic Director’s Award for the 11th time, more than any other MSU women’s team, and posted a cumulative GPA (3.856), the second all-time highest in the Athletic Department, surpassed only by the team’s 3.858 mark last year.

The Spartan coach also continues to hone her own golf game, winning more Golf Association of Michigan (GAM) championships than anyone, with 11 titles, including two Michigan Women’s Amateur championship (1996 and 1998). During the summer of 2022, she made the cut at the U.S. Senior Women’s Amateur in Alaska – reaching the round of 16 – and won the GAM Women’s Senior Championship.
