Per the Spurs press release:
The Spurs Youth Basketball League (SYBL), presented by Pizza Hut, announced celebrations for its 35th anniversary. Originally known as the Drug-Free League, SYBL has been a cornerstone in the South and Central Texas area since its founding, shaping the lives of hundreds of thousands of young athletes through its emphasis on teamwork, cooperation, respect and discipline.
Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich and Kids Sports Network president/founder Frank Martin launched the SYBL in 1990. The organization has nearly 10,000 participants each year through 25 various locations.
Kara Allen, Chief, Impact, People and Belonging Officer at Spurs Sports and Entertainment stated,
“For the last 35 years, SYBL has rooted itself on not only teaching young people the game of basketball but also the critical life skills and character traits that are necessary for our next generation to succeed.”
This year, the SYBL will host a series of community events, fundraisers and special engagements all throughout the 2024-25 season.
