Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs visit the Philadelphia 76ers at the Wells Fargo Center tonight, who have Joel Embiid healthy again after he suffered a facial injury earlier in the month.

My best bet
Victor Wembanyama Over 22.5 points (-115 at bet365)

My analysis
As expected, Victor Wembanyama’s scoring output has improved in Year 2. He’s averaging 24.7 points per game compared to 21.4 in his rookie season. 

There’s been a slight uptick in minutes, and Wemby is simply getting more adapted to the league. The San Antonio Spurs are actually above .500 and have won two in a row, much in part due to Wemby’s brilliance. 

The big man is balling out lately, hitting the Over in points in four of his last five games. Across the last two, Wembanyama has dropped 72 points — 30 against the Blazers and 42 against the Hawks. He’s shooting the rock at a ridiculously efficient clip from all over the floor. 

There’s plenty of evidence to support the belief Wemby will continue the trend tonight. He averaged 33 ppg in two contests vs. the Philadelphia 76ers in 2023-24, showing he’s more than capable of going up against a player like Embiid.

Nevertheless, I fully expect Wembanyama to score the basketball at a high level again. He’s as confident as can be right now.

Chris Paul has been a wonderful addition to the young Spurs, giving them a veteran voice in the locker room and, of course, tremendous playmaking. While CP3 may not be scoring a lot these days, he’s still a top-notch playmaker. 

The guard is averaging 8.4 assists and has hit the Over in dimes three games in a row and eight of the last nine. He’s even had a couple of double-digit assist games during that span. Paul isn’t called the Point God for no reason. 

The Sixers are allowing 8.6 assists per night to point guards this season and allow the 13th most dimes per contest in the Association. Paul will cash the Over tonight in the City of Brotherly Love. 

The points total is just 217, which is understandable since both of these teams are near the bottom of the league in points per game. However, the Over has been hit in three straight meetings, and the total was set closer to 230. 

Embiid is back in the mix, and the Spurs have also been playing well lately. I wouldn’t be surprised to see a high-scoring affair between San Antonio and Philly.
