BISMARCK, N.D. (KFYR) – Life is all about perspective. For Legacy basketball’s Parker Falcon, that’s something he learned at a young age. He has a tattoo to remind him of that which reads ‘At the right time I the Lord will make it happen.’
“It’s just a daily reminder that you may be going through stuff right now, but it will eventually get better, and there’s a right time and a right place for things,” Falcon said.
Falcon was just a middle schooler when he had to have a serious surgery following a routine physical.
“I grew too fast, so my chest caved in, and what happened was I had a CT scan and it actually pushed my heart up, so I had to have surgery, so it made its way back down,” Falcon said.
He now has a metal bar in his chest that will stay there for a total of seven years, but his body is still fully functional.
“It was a major setback for sure,” Falcon said.
Surgery sidelined him for months and forced him to focus on his first love, the game of basketball.
“I always knew basketball was my thing,” Falcon said.
Now he’s elevated his game to the next level. He’s gone from a three-point specialist off the bench as a freshman to a do-it-all defender and scorer as a senior.
“It comes from, like we said, daily drills and little one-on-one individual workouts, and things like that,” Sabers’ Head Coach Jason Horner said. “Just seeing that, yeah I need to do this. He’s really been open to understanding why we’re doing things and how it benefits not only him but how it benefits the team as well.”
Falcon is putting his team first, which is an approach that the Sabers hope will help in their quest for a third straight state tournament appearance.
“It’s a big role, and it’s a role that I obviously need to grow on, and I’ve been doing a better job of it this season,” Falcon said.
Regardless of what happens on the court, Falcon is happy he gets to play the game he loves. That’s his piece of perspective when it comes to facing life.
“It’s a mindset thing,” Falcon said. “You’ve got to have heart. You’ve got to have the right mindset for that.”
Falcon will play collegiately next year at Minot State University.
