NBA insider Shams Charania took a break from basketball scoops to alert his X followers on Sunday that President Joe Biden was dropping out of the 2024 presidential race.
And that, many users responded, is how they found out about the bombshell news.
Charania, 30, wrote on his account at 1:50 p.m.: “Joe Biden has withdrawn from the US Presidential race.”
That came four minutes after Biden’s letter announcing he will not seek reelection was posted to his X account.
Within 40 minutes, Charania’s tweet had already been viewed seven million times.
“I learned about one of the most significant moments in recent American political history through an NBA Twitter alert,” CBS NBA reporter Sam Quinn wrote on X.
“The fact that I found this out from Shams Charania pretty much sums up my life,” X user @graceifthecurls responded.
“Thanks Shams my source for World News,” another X user, @j6rek, wrote.
Others posted memes in response to Biden stepping aside.
Bleacher Report’s Molly Morrison posted a photo of a stone-faced Kawhi Leonard posing in his Team USA jersey during the Olympic team’s training camp; Leonard was quickly taken off the team for injury reasons.
Some other X users joked about Charania getting the best of former teammate turned rival Adrian Wojnarowski, who had not tweeted or retweeted anything about the Biden news as of this writing.
“Get cooked @wojespn,” X user @PotatoGobbler wrote.
Charania, who works for The Athletic, Stadium and FanDuel, will soon be a free agent as all three of his deals are up within the next two months, The Post’s Ryan Glasspiegel reported on Tuesday.
