The Boston Red Sox will travel to face the New York Yankees in a four-game set this weekend at Yankee Stadium. It marks the final regular-season series of baseball’s best rivalry until next year.
Betting odds for this rivalry showdown won’t be available at the BetMGM online sportsbook until closer to Game 1. But it can be helpful for fans and bettors to look back on previous head-to-head matchups to get a sense of what to expect this weekend.
The Red Sox are 5-4 in nine matchups against the Yankees this season. They have closed as the betting favorite in one of those games, meaning they have been profitable as an underdog in this rivalry.
As such, a bettor would be up $21.10 if they wagered $10 on Boston’s moneyline price tag for each game thus far.
For comparison, Boston went 9-4 against New York during the 2023 campaign. The Red Sox closed as an underdog seven times, with their odds ranging from -146 to +140 in every game.
According to this year’s betting odds, the Red Sox’s biggest upset over their rival was their 8-4 win on June 15. They closed as +160 underdogs, suggesting an implied probability of 38.46%.
Boston was a -114 favorite before its 11-8 loss to New York on July 27.
However, the best bet in this year’s rivalry has been on runs. The over has cashed six times, starting with a push during New York’s 8-1 win in the first head-to-head matchup on June 14.
Interestingly, the under was more profitable in this rivalry last year. Eight of the 13 Red Sox-Yankees battles finished below the closing total.
This week’s series will begin with Thursday’s opener at 7:15 p.m. ET and conclude with the finale on Sunday.
