There Goes Harvard tied for the highest Brisnet Speed Rating and earned the highest Beyer Speed figure among last week’s winners.
The 7-year-old son of Will Take Charge led gate to wire to win the Grade 3 San Marcos by 3 1/4 lengths for trainer Michael McCarthy. Frankie Dettori was aboard for the 1 1/4-mile trip on Santa Anita’s downhill turf course.
It was the first win in nine starts since There Goes Harvard scored in the Hollywood Gold Cup (G1) in May 2022. The San Marcos was the 2025 debut for There Goes Harvard, who was 10th in the Breeders’ Cup Turf in his prior start.
Also scoring 97 Brisnet ratings were John Hancock, winner of the Sam F. Davis on the Tampa Bay Downs road to the Kentucky Derby, and Sand Devil, winner of the Damon Runyon at Aqueduct.
The fastest of all runners last week was Colloquial, a 3-year-old son of Vekoma trained by George Weaver. In his second start and first since June, he won a maiden special weight at Aqueduct by seven lengths with Manny Franco riding. He earned a 109 Brisnet rating and a 106 Beyer.
