Everton manager Brian Sørensen says that he is not worried about his side’s difficult start to the season.

After six matches, The Blue Girls are bottom of the Barclays Women’s Super League table. Everton have picked up two points so far this season while they have netted just one goal, an own goal against West Ham United.

When speaking to the media ahead of this weekend’s fixture at Crystal Palace, Sørensen said that he is not concerned by his side’s tough start.

“People on the outside are worried about us but I’m not,” Sørensen said. “We have had two games out of six this season where we were not at our best which were the Brighton and Chelsea games. In the other games, we were good against [Manchester] United, Leicester, West Ham and Arsenal but at the end of the day, we only got two points out of them and that’s not enough. We should have had more but they’re not there, that’s the reality and we know that.

“We have three winnable games coming up, starting with [Crystal] Palace. It’ll be as tough as every other game in this league, especially with our depleted squad, but it’s a game that we believe we can win. We will do everything in our power to get that win.”

Everton’s difficult spell on the pitch has been matched with injuries off it. Despite the continuous challenges, Sørensen says that his players are in good spirits.

He said “The mood in the squad is fine, it’s good. We all know that it’s not an ideal situation. We don’t have a big squad and when we have a few players out, we really feel it. We probably only have 17 players that can compete at this level and then we have young talents that are not ready that we are trying to get ready. We also have players that are having to carry niggles. That can sometimes bite you because you can’t give them the rest or manage their load properly. It’s things that we have to manage and we are doing it the best we can.”

Everton could move off the bottom of the table with a positive result at Crystal Palace this weekend but Sørensen says that it’ll be another tough game.

He said “I think they’ve been good, they’ve been solid and they look well-coached. They look organised and they try to utilise their strengths.

“They got their first win against Leicester which was impressive and I think overall, they’re a good team. 

“Every time we go out on the pitch in this league, there are no easy games. We have to be at our best and we will also look to do that on Sunday.”

Everton’s Barclays Women’s Super League fixture at Crystal Palace kicks-off at 2pm on Sunday afternoon.
