Sony Sports Network, the leading sports channel in India, has announced ‘Cricket Petta’, a new Tamil cricket podcast that digs into the world of cricket with a distinct regional spin, a first for any Indian sports broadcaster. Cricket Petta, which means ‘Cricket Locality,’ is intended to capture Tamil-speaking cricket fans by providing exciting debates, tales, and unique viewpoints on the sport.
This five-episode podcast, led by Arun Venugopal, an energetic Tamil multi-sports commentator, aims to convey cricket’s historic past via a fresh, regionally inspired perspective.
The opening episode will air on October 30, 2024, with weekly installments every Wednesday until November 27, 2024. The podcast will be available on key platforms like YouTube, JioSaavan, Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Amazon Music, Gaana, and Hungama.
The first episode, titled “Is Ashwin the Greatest Player from Tamil Nadu to Represent India?” includes lively discussions with former India Women’s Coach and Tamil Nadu player W.V. Raman, in addition to Puducherry and Tamil Nadu cricketer Arun Karthik, who share engaging stories and insider tales about their experiences with Ashwin, providing fans with an exclusive look into the world of Indian cricket.
Each episode of Cricket Petta will feature expert conversations about current cricket themes and iconic players. For example, former cricketer L. Sivaramakrishnan will examine the captaincy styles of MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli, and Rohit Sharma, while R. Sridhar and Vidyut Sivaramakrishnan will speak about great cricket venues such as Eden Gardens and Wankhede Stadium.
