Skip Bayless might be rooting for Josh Allen in the AFC Championship Game, but he has no faith in the NFL allowing the Buffalo Bills to usurp the Taylor Swift effect.
After watching Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs beat the Houston Texans this past weekend, Bayless is confident the NFL will do everything in its power to ensure they, along with Taylor Swift, are in New Orleans for the Super Bowl.
“Nobody wants to hear this, and I don’t care,” Bayless said on his podcast. “I can’t say this publicly, at least I’m not supposed to.”
No, Bayless wasn’t talking about the workplace misconduct lawsuit against Fox Sports that lists him as a defendant after allegedly offering a former hairstylist $1.5 million for sex. Bayless has not said anything publicly about those allegations. Instead, Bayless was talking about Allen’s chances of beating Mahomes and the Chiefs in the AFC Championship Game.
“Josh Allen and the Bills are up against a 60-man juggernaut. That’s 53 Chiefs and seven referees,” Bayless claimed. “The memo will go out, just as it did last week, ‘make sure Taylor Swift makes it to New Orleans for the Super Bowl.’ Without her, the NFL loses millions and millions of viewers who will tune in, mostly to see what she’s wearing up in that Superdome luxury box. So Mahomes, teetering though he might, must be propped up. Must be protected by the referees, just the way he was Saturday, at home against the Texans.”
While Bayless might be taking too many liberties in accusing the NFL of essentially fixing games to make sure Taylor Swift is in a luxury box at the Super Bowl, Mahomes was the beneficiary of some seemingly preferential treatment from the referees against Houston. Specifically, the controversial roughing the passer and unnecessary roughness calls that extended two separate drives for Kansas City.
“This is the Taylor Swift effect,” Bayless claimed. “She is a one-woman ratings juggernaut. ‘Protect her! Prop her up! Award her boyfriend’s team with phantom penalties. Get them to New Orleans! The NFL needs the Swifties. Protect ‘em! Prop ‘em up! Make sure the Chiefs advance!’”
