SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) – A major goal for any athletic department is to produce scholars, and Georgia Southern men’s golf is doing just that. Six members of the team were named All-American Scholars by the Golf Coaches Association of America. Brantley Baker, Hayden Carner, Parker Claxton, Reece Coleman, Hogan Ingram, and Luke Koenig are the honorees.
Golfers from NCAA DI, DII, DIII, NAIA, and NJCAA programs are eligible, but the distinction comes with a list of qualifications.
First, the student-athletes must be a sophomore, junior, or senior, and maintain a 3.2 GPA. They must also average a certain score or better on the golf course, that number being different at each level. For NCAA DI, golfers must play in at least 50% of their team’s rounds and average better than 76.0 strokes per round.
This is the second time being named an All-American Scholar for Hogan Ingram and Brantley Baker, but first time for the other four Eagles.
Six is tied for the most honorees from one school between all five of the collegiate levels. Over 530 NCAA Division I athletes from 180 schools earned 2023-24 Cobalt Golf All-America Scholar honors. Georgia Southern, Mercer, Texas Tech, and Yale each had six recipients, tied with Missouri S&T (NCAA Division II), Trine (NCAA Division III), and Texas Wesleyan (NAIA) for the most recipients from one school across all five divisions in 2023-24.
