It was clear that Florida State, facing a must-win season in 2025 and changing up its offensive staff by bringing in Gus Malzahn, was going to pursue a transfer portal quarterback. Sometimes that is enough to send young talent packing, sometimes it is not. In the case of the No. 4 2024 recruit Luke Kromenhoek, who just finished his true freshman season, the winds of change were enough to make him enter the portal.
Florida State fans were not happy, needless to say, about losing a talented young prospect. But coach Mike Norvell and Malzahn have to deliver in 2025 and the safest route towards that is a transfer bridge, not a young passer, though it does further shine a spotlight on FSU’s failures in building up its quarterback room through recruiting and development.
