SIOUX CITY (KTIV) – For the third consecutive year, a lineup of football legends hit the links to support and raise money for public education for the Sioux City Public Schools Foundation’s “Golf Fore Education” classic.

Monday afternoon, Heisman winners such as Johnny Rodgers, Mike Rozier, and Eric Crouch, along with other familiar names such as Ricky Simmons and Marcus Dupree, donated their time to support the foundation’s mission of advancing education for students.

With a shotgun start time at noon, those who signed up for the event got to take pictures with the Heisman trophies and have a meet and greet with the players before hitting the course.

“To be able to be a positive role model for our youth is very important,” said Ricky Simmons, Former Nebraska Husker. “They’re our future, so, you always want to do something that’s going to benefit them and hopefully give them some guidance for the future.”

The non-profit, Sioux City Public Schools Foundation, exists to support the Sioux City Community School District with innovative programs that cannot be achieved through limited state and federal funding.

Recently the organization has been emphasizing the trades field through their career academy. Their hope for fundraisers like this one is to show people that “education is everyone’s business.”

“I just want everybody to participate you know, everything’s taught all about teamwork, anything you can do by yourself just ain’t big enough, teamwork makes the dreams work,” said Johnny Rodgers, Former NFL player. “You don’t win Heisman trophies by yourself, you don’t win national champions by yourself, and you don’t get educational programs in your city by yourself, and teamwork always makes the dreams work.”

The football players were partnered up with some of the top-representing sponsors of the event. And at the end they had a raffle with prizes donated by local teams and sponsors, as well as some prizes from the Kansas City Chiefs head coach, Andy Reid.
