TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) – As we prepare for the shift into the cold winter months, it’s essential for kids to have what they need to stay warm.
Thanks to Advisors Excel, schools like Sheldon Head Start were able to provide their little learners with a unique shopping experience for winter wear.
“While it’s still like 90 degrees outside right now, we do know those colder temperatures are coming quick and we just want our kids and families to be prepared for that and to have what they need before the winter begins,” said the Principal of Sheldon Head Start, Gabrielle Tanner. “Advisors Excel absolutely sets us up for that. We fully believe in children playing outside, we do our two 30-minute outside times every day and believe in that 60 minutes of play so we want them to be prepared for those colder temperatures and be set up for success for the winter.”
“I seriously just stand in the background and cheese the entire time because they’re so excited. It is just one of those moments where I get to stand back as a proud principal and say, ‘Look at what we’re able to do here.’”
After picking out their favorite shoes, coats, hats, and gloves, the kids expressed their gratitude to the school and the volunteers from Advisors Excel who helped them get the perfect warm-weather outfits.
It’s moments such as these that Tanner hopes linger with the children as they grow.
“Our kids are three and four when they’re here so it’s that time in life where they may not remember but we hope that what we’re doing here is so memorable,” said Tanner. “It can take so little for us to give back to others, but that can mean so much.”
There will be a “shopping spree” for the students of Pine Ridge Prep coming up later in the week.
