Shanghai Masters: Shelton defeats Shapovalov
American Ben Shelton, the No 14 seed, advanced to the third round of the Shanghai Masters by defeating Canadian qualifier Denis Shapovalov 6-3, 7-5 at the Qi Zhong Tennis Center on Friday night.
Shelton, ranked No 16, will play the winner of the match between Frenchman Arthur Fils, the No 21 seed, and Spaniard Roberto Carballes Baena next.
In the previous round of the Shanghai tournament, Shapovalov, ranked No 102, won against Italian Lorenzo Sonego (7-6 (5), 7-6 (8)).
