Céline Dion recently updated one of her classic ballads with new lyrics that left golf fans both confused and laughing.
On March 4, the music superstar attended a golf match for TGL — a new three-versus-three golf league co-founded by Tiger Woods — in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. During the match, ESPN reporter Marty Smith spotted Dion in the crowd and decided to ask her a few golf-related questions, leading to some hilarious musical commentary from the singer.
In a clip posted on ESPN’s X account, Smith asked Dion to name one of her songs that would best describe her skills on the green.
Dion giggled before suddenly breaking into a rendition of “My Heart Will Go On,” with slightly different lyrics to fit the occasion. “Near, far, wherever you are,” she sang as she encouraged Smith to join her.
She continued, “I believe that my ball will go on.” The crowd applauded Dion’s lyric change and Smith’s attempt to sing with the Grammy winner.
The cameras then cut to Woods, who was standing with his Jupiter Links Golf Club. The athlete reacted by laughing and shaking his head. Buffalo Bills star Josh Allen was also seen in the crowd. He seemed caught off guard and quickly tried to conceal his face.
“You’re not bad!” Dion said, complimenting Smith’s vocals.
He replied, “I’m going to come to Vegas for the residency.”
Fellow ESPN journalist Matt Barrie chimed in from the broadcast booth and also sang a lyric from “My Heart Will Go On.”
“By the way, while we’re on this theme, can I get something off my chest?” Barrie asked. “Rose was so selfish to push Jack off the floating door. I’m never gotten over that,” he said, referencing an unforgettable scene from “Titanic,” which features “My Heart Will Go On” on the soundtrack.
People on X praised both Dion and Smith for their impromptu duet of her hit song.
“Didn’t have Marty Smith dueting with Celine Dion on the bingo card tonight. But Marty is always prepared,” college football reporter Andy Staples tweeted.
Another said, “Great performance!!!”
A third simply commented, “Quality Content.”
During the ESPN interview with Smith, Dion also spoke about the passion her family has for golf. She attended the match with her three sons: 24-year-old René-Charles Angelil and 14-year-old twins Nelson and Eddy.
“The three of them are golfers. They are very passionate about the game,” she shared. “I used to play golf when I had time. Then I had kids, then I took a little break and here I am.”
She added, “But it’s a great passion as a mother to see my own children to play this game that has so much … etiquette.”
Dion said it was “magical” to be at the TGL match with her family.
